Summary

Overall it's a nice friendly bar, the prices are in line with central London and the popcorn tastes great! I'd definitely come back for pre/post theatre drinks!

Stage Door, The Waldorf’s attempt at a Summer Pop Up seems like a great idea on paper, especially as it can be found on Aldwych tree lined streets, sitting grandly in between the Novello Theatre and Aldwych Theatre in the heart of London’s West End.

Prior to our arrival the invite promised much with after hours’ tipple, feast on gourmet popcorn, a trio of desserts or fresh sharing platters, where you watch the sun go down in theatreland. This could be perfect for anyone who loves the Theatre and late night desserts and as I fitted in this bracket perfectly I felt it was my job to go on behalf of LDN Life to see if Stage Door at The Waldorf lived up to expectations.

I have to admit I wasn’t entirely sure I was in the right place when I arrived at the Stage Door pop up at first it looked like normal, albeit fancy, hotel bar and it had none of the temporary feel I was expecting from a pop up. That being said it was warm and welcoming the barmen were attentive and friendly suggesting to us which of the gourmet popcorn flavours we might like to try. We were looking for something sweet so went for the Orange Marmalade and the Strawberries and Cream (there’s also Madras Curry and Honey Sesame available).

Deciding to sit by the window we found the frosting on the glass added to the relaxed atmosphere of the chilled music and comfy chairs by distancing us from the hustle and bustle of Aldwych. However the jarring nature of two TV screens playing E4 shows on silent was weird. I’m hoping this was just a first night glitch, as Les Misérables or another play on these screens would have been far more atmospheric.

The Prosecco tasted lovely, crisp and fresh, just as it should be in my opinion. The Rosé was enjoyable as well and the Joe & Seph’s popcorn we tried tasted good and were true to flavour, the strawberries and cream was particularly nice.

Overall it’s a nice friendly bar, the prices are in line with central London and the popcorn tastes great! I’d definitely come back for pre/post theatre drinks!
